About Nucleus

What is it like to work for Nucleus

Leadership
Leadership
David Ferguson embodies a leadership philosophy that fits with a small business, but the difference is he’s successfully maintained this despite the company’s rapid growth. The most distinctive thing about how David operates is how open and approachable he is. No matter how junior the member of staff he takes the time to say hello and doesn’t have a hierarchical style. David extends this to external customers too – inviting them to phone him direct to discuss particular issues or to talk to him about the industry in general. Not many other CEOs of financial services offer the same. One big reason that David has taken this direction is that he really does care about both the people working at Nucleus and the advisers Nucleus is working for; he doesn’t just pay lip service to it. This has been evidenced by his willingness to keep people up-to-date with how the business is progressing against its targets. David is passionate about the change Nucleus is bringing to the industry and he inspires that passion in others – encouraging employees to try new ways of doing things and challenge the status quo. In this he embodies their company values to the core. David has created an energetic, entrepreneurial culture that’s essential in an ambitious, rapidly growing business environment.
Giving Something Back
Giving Something Back
Every year Nucleus sponsor a nominated charity, chosen by the staff. Throughout the year they do various different fund raising events in order to raise awareness for the charity. By doing so, this also reaches out to their wider community, and helps them raise large amounts for causes close to their staff. This year they have had three key fund raising events, as well as regular smaller activities throughout the year. In June a large group of staff entered a Dragon Boat race at Ocean Terminal in Edinburgh, and raced against lots of different local companies. Their group successfully raised the most money for charity, despite the fact they lost out on the races themselves! At the end of August, four members of staff risked their lives doing a skydive to raise money for the charity! They overcame their fears, and raised a huge amount in the process. September saw a group of four staff, including David, their CEO, compete in the Great Scottish Run. A couple of people hobbled away from it, but they successfully raised thousands of pounds for their worthy charity partner!
My Company
My Company
2014 saw the introduction of a Culture Group at Nucleus, a small group of staff representing a cross section of the company. This group allows open table discussions for staff suggestions to be made by the staff, and more formally acknowledges and actions changes suggested. The group is fairly newly formed, so they are in the process of planning and implementing changes to see the company into the new year. As well as this, their people and development team feed into the management, as and when suggestions are made, and their open door policy encourages staff to share their thoughts with them at all times.
