The Ramsay Academy, interactive intranet tool, provides links to training and development activities. The core founding blocks are Ramsay Way values. Each professional area has its own faculty, the Clinical Academy shows the areas of specialism such as theatre nursing with the core level of skills required and which learning intervention is appropriate to gain those skills. There are links into the clinical practice development page and knowledge sharing forums. This page also hosts all clinical competencies. Main advantage of the academy is the visibility of development opportunities available to all employees. It also drives consistency of approach. It provides clear development pathways linked with PDR process and development plans. Ramsay has High Potential Leadership Programme and 2 members of staff are chosen each year to participate. The selected employees undertake secondments to various corporate directorates while also undertaking an MBA at Warwick Business School. The Scholarship fund is another support to personal development: Ramsay part-funded programmes of employees own choosing.

As a healthcare company, the wellbeing of their employees is a top priority for the organisation. In order to enhance the wellbeing of employees Ramsay ensure that they do not wait for a problem in terms of an employees' health to manifest itself in absence from the workplace before taking action; rather they encourage managers to be proactive and address potential issues as early as possible. This is reflected by their high level of referrals to their Occupational Health provider of employees who are currently still at work. Each workplace is encouraged to take steps to enhance wellbeing at a local level in a way which complements the culture of the hospital. One such example is at West Midlands Hospital which was recently awarded a Gold Award for Healthy Eating by their local council.

For Ramsay managers, the Ramsay Conference is the highlight of the year and this year it was particularly special. It was held at Gleneagles resort in Scotland and on one of the afternoon’s employees were divided into teams and competed against each other in traditional highland games. However, each individual hospital also holds social events throughout the year and this year a very special event was held by one of their hospitals. Ramsay is an Australian owned company and staff in the UK were particularly struck by the devastation caused by the floods in Queensland, Australia in January 2011. As a result one of the hospitals held a fundraising event to help the flood victims. It was a really memorable event which showcased the close ties between Ramsay's hospitals here in the UK and in Australia.
