About Royal College of Physicians

The Royal College of Physicians (RCP) represents 33,000 doctors around the world and works to promote the best possible health and healthcare for everybody. They are England’s oldest medical college and the RCP was founded in 1518 by King Henry VIII. Members include doctors, consultants, registrars and doctors in training, working across 30 medical specialities and with millions of medical patients in their care.

Employees are recognised for their hard work in the RCP Excellence awards, with 25 individuals rewarded for their performance, efforts and going beyond their roles. A fund of £40,000 was shared between the winners.

A huge staff party is held in the summer, and another at Christmas, with around 350 employees attending the gatherings. To mark the RCP’s 500th birthday, the chief executive and treasurer have committed to cycling 2,018 miles across the UK to raise funds for the Physicians of Africa.

Managers are offered coaching, mentoring and job shadowing to help them to develop and support their teams. Annual personal development reviews are held to measure performance, as well as regular one-on-one meetings and measuring key performance indicators on an ongoing basis.
The organisation run a variety of initiatives to enhance wellbeing, including access to a psychotherapist, doctor and nurse, aromatherapy sessions, massages, yoga classes and a book club. Flexible working options are also available and this is especially encouraged for parents.
