“We are delighted to announce the results from our Best Companies Employee Engagement survey, achieving ‘outstanding’ levels of engagement! 2020 has been a testing year for businesses, and like many of you we have had to adapt quickly, listen and learn from our people as we have moved from a 100% office based set-up to a much more agile, and flexible way of working for the current times. We are always looking for ways to improve as a business, and the Best Companies survey has highlighted a number of key areas we are developing internally to help maintain our position as one of the best companies to work in the UK! We’re looking forward to introducing some of these changes over the coming months for our people” - Martin Blythe, Managing Director
Maintaining employee engagement throughout the pandemic has been a top priority at Searchability. They had numerous initiatives in place to ensure regular communication, employee reassurance and support for those working from home and furloughed. Their Directors lead a weekly catch upon Microsoft Teams, encouraging more social connections between colleagues in an open environment. To maintain a feel of their office company culture weekly team catch ups where fun and interactive, with Directors hosting weekly quizzes with prizes delivered to the winners each week. For employees working from home at the beginning of the pandemic, their Managing Director hosted team meetings via video call on Zoom and ensured that individual teams had all of the tools and resources to maintain a seamless line of communication.
Searchability provided free mindfulness sessions, delivered by Jenny Ingram (Chartered and Registered Forensic Psychologist) once a week via Zoom. These sessions provided a safe platform for their people to share any concerns, worries, stresses and informed their people around mindfulness techniques to help manage these feelings during lockdown. These were optional sessions, open to all employees and the feedback for those who participated was very positive, - a furloughed employee commented " this opportunity once a week to share worries, feelings and connect with my colleagues while at home alone got me through some really difficult weeks, the techniques I learnt I could use anytime and really helped my mental health."
As part of their weekly Teams catch ups on a Friday, Searchability held a virtual race day, encouraging employees to enter with a charitable donation to Chester Zoo (who at the time were fighting for survival in the pandemic). Employees donated a minimum of £20 each, and their MD also donated the prize of an adult Zoo membership to the winning employee too, raising a total of £1,046 for the Chester Zoo charity.
