SMT market the sale of Volvo Construction equipment such as wheeled loaders, articulated haulers, Hydraulic excavators, utility equipment and road equipment, and offer after sales support to small and large dealerships across the UK.
SMT has nine locations across the UK, with it's UK head office in Duxford, Cambridgeshire. SMT employs around 450 employees, with one third of these being heavy plant mechanical engineers.
The organisation has implemented an employee wellbeing programme through 'New Leaf' which is something employees have asked for. They had previously considered BUPA, BUPA Wellness, adding a medical allowance to 'Health Shield' benefits they offer, but decided on the on-site approach as it was very visible benefit, and could take place in work time. SMT have a large budget and continually look to develop new skills in the organisation. SMT fund memberships to professional organisations such as CIPD and CMI. They open up their management development programme (ITM) to all employees once a year to apply for, producing some shining stars who weren't previously on their radar.
