About St Gemma's Hospice

St Gemma’s Hospice provide care and quality of life for people living with a terminal illness and those close to them within a hospital and in the community. Their vision is to meet the needs of its users with care, compassion and skill.

All their services are provided free of charge and more than 250 employees work for St Gemma’s Hospice across their hospital and charity shops. Staff regularly organise and participate in charity events to raise funds for the hospice and the organisation participates in numerous community projects.

The chief executive has an open-door policy and is visible to all employees, undertaking regular visits to all remote sites. Individual wellbeing plans are made for staff with caring responsibilities and the hospice is a member of the Leeds-based Working Carers Employers Group. They are the largest hospice in Yorkshire and one of the biggest in the UK.

What is it like to work for St Gemma's Hospice

A behaviours framework sets out how all leaders can put the organisation’s values into action and these are embedded by the senior management team. The chief executive hosts a quarterly Question Time event and all directors hold regular one-to-one meetings where the hospice’s values and behaviours are communicated and reflected upon.

St Gemma’s Hospice are the only University Teaching Hospice in the world and carry out ongoing research. All workers benefit from a comprehensive internal training programme and also have access to external training. Every employee is given dementia training and an annual staff conference acknowledges individual achievements.
