Company Information

LIFE MAY NOT be a bowl of cherries, but it is certainly sweet for the 328 employees at Stewarts Law. They rank this limited liability partnership 10th in our Fair Deal category, with a 71% positive score.

This London-based legal firm — which lists “manners” among its four values — has seen massive growth in recent years, thanks to new divisions tackling high-value and complex disputes in divorce, employment and commerce. Partner Lady Helen Ward is described as the “grande dame of divorce” on the company website, having represented such high-profile clients as Guy Ritchie in his split from Madonna and Bernie Ecclestone against his former wife Slavica.

Stewarts’ revenues have risen 80% since 2011, hitting just over £51m in 2015 (with almost £28m in profit). Staff typically earn £94,000 a year, including bonus, while almost a fifth receive more than £150,000. People feel happy with their pay and benefits (76%), which include a car allowance, employee assistance programme and critical illness protection.

The business, which also has an office in Leeds, had 98 new joiners last year and supports career progression. It also encourages teambuilding through charitable events.

Some partners started as paralegals and experience gained is seen as valuable for the future (82%). Staff are confident in the skills of senior bosses (80%) and managing partner John Cahill regularly invites people to “good communications” meetings. He gets actively involved in most interviewing and welcomes ideas and questions.
