The college offers vocational and academic qualifications and training for students from 14 upwards. It is a national centre for a range of specialist courses and invests more than £160 in training for each member of staff every year. People think the job is good for their own growth (74%, a score bettered by only four other mid-sized bodies). They aren't bored in their roles (70%) and say work is an important part of who they are (75%).
The positive can-do attitude culture comes from the very top. Principal Lynn Merilion runs the college on sound moral principles (71%) and staff have great faith in her (68%). Four-fifths of employees earn from £15,000 to £35,000 a year. They get generous holidays with additional time off at Christmas, and perks include an on-site crèche, a cycle-to-work scheme, and a final salary pension into which the college puts 13% of pay.
