TnS use an external trainer for continued professional support. They also use internal training for site staff so they can work at another site to learn or have relief staff into their own site for added support or development. Regular reviews during induction and the probationary period takes place with each employee’s Line Manager and is followed by annual appraisals to identify further training requirements. Online training takes place for health and safety and NVQ training is available to all employees. The company also have a Rising Star Programme for young employees hoping to reach managerial status. There are insight reports, annual appraisals, bonus related performance pay, PDP, PIP, Site KPI's and Site Detail Reports reviewed at board level meetings at varying levels.
The wellbeing of employees is important to TnS Catering and they look to enhance this for employees where they can. Employees are able to go onto a cookery course at either Leiths, Swinton Park or Ashburton. They have a variety of courses that they design and run throughout the year. It is good for meeting other colleagues, team building and having a relaxing day cooking up something delicious. They also encourage team nights out for employees to spend some social time together. This can be effective when a new member joins a team. TnS have always given out birthday cards and this year they have introduced vouchers for “special” birthday occasions. TnS Catering look at workplace stress and how to manage or reduce this. Each employee completes an online Stress at Work training programme, which is useful to give the employee tips, hints and exercises. Line Managers have access to HR advice on dealing with any situations that may arise, ensuring they are as supportive as they can be. Employees will also participate in regular meetings with Line Managers. TnS operate an “Open Door” policy for all staff at any time. As a company they look to continually improve so if any situations arise they learn from those and see what action points they can add to improve in the future.

During the year staff members who have gone above and beyond, overcome challenges in the work place or have done something outstanding in their role can be nominated for a PRIDE award (Personally Responsible In Delivering Excellence) by anyone in the company. When a staff member is nominated, a write up of the reasoning behind the nomination is completed and once the nomination is confirmed by an Operations Manager or Board Member the individual will receive a monetary gift of £250, along with a salver engraved with their name and reason for winning. The individual also receives a laminated TnS Catering PRIDE award certificate signed by Tim and Phil, which they can display at their workplace. Once the PRIDE award winner has been notified and gifts presented, they will be mentioned in the company’s quarterly TnS Catering Newsletter, which is sent to all employees home addresses.
