Cumberland Building Society have been a regional provider of financial services for over 150 years. The organisation has a rich history and a supportive culture. They are a major employer in the operating area with a main head office in Carlisle and a network of over 30 branches.
At the centre of the organisation is a set of five core principles: Customer Led; Straight Forward; Responsible; Forward Thinking; Better Together. The Building Society asked a group of employees to develop these principles and roll them out throughout the business with senior leadership team sponsorship.
The organisation understands that a large proportion of the success that they have seen can be attributed to the continued dedication and efforts from their employees. They have introduced a quarterly ovations scheme which is peer nominated against the criteria of living the principles of the organisation, this can be won by an individual or team and is decided on by a peer led group.
