About Tommies Childcare

Tommies Childcare provides exciting and memorable early years experiences for children aged 0 through to 5 years. Through their award-winning nursery and pre-school settings in Coventry & Warwickshire, Tommies Childcare offer children a unique way of learning and developing during the crucial years of their early education.

Their vision is to nurture, protect and help children grow into well-balanced, happy and self-assured adults in safe, natural and creative surroundings.

They are there to support parents, nurture a creative environment, support the child’s individuality and confidence, and finally, guarantee employees are the best of the best.

The industry that Tommies Childcare are in requires them to be able to deliver their service in person for it to be effective. This has meant that in line with Government guidelines staff have been phased back into work over a period of 3 months since their initial re-opening in June 2020. This phased approach has enabled those returning to get to grips with any changes that they may need to be aware of and settle themselves back into their roles.

“Our employees have worked on the frontline since the pandemic reached the UK, and I am incredibly proud of how they have risen to the challenge. In what has been a turbulent year for us all, our commitment to making Tommies Childcare an extraordinary place to work for our people remains unshaken. To retain our 3-star accreditation for a third consecutive year is a remarkable achievement, and I am delighted to celebrate this success with our employees” - Danielle Butler, Operations Director

What is it like to work for Tommies Childcare

In March 2020 Tommies Childcare closed six of the eight settings they have, keeping two open for those children of Key Workers. This created a two-tiered staffing system with some of their employees being furloughed and some continuing to work. At the start of lockdown each of their employees who continued to work as part of the 'Core Team’ were issued with a personalised book, thanking them for their contribution during the pandemic. In addition to this for all employees they held quizzes and gameshows every two weeks virtually. These were well received, and feedback was very positive, with many staff sharing ideas of topics that could be covered in the future.

Tommies Childcare have ensured that staff are spoken to by their Line Manager on a regular basis to make sure that any concerns can be raised and discussed where applicable. They have also shared information and tips on how to maintain their wellbeing during this time. This information has been shared on Facebook Workplace to all employees. In addition to this prior to Lockdown, their Wellbeing Initiative had been updated and was ready to share with employees, however during lockdown they used this as an opportunity to gain employees thoughts on support that could be put in place to support their wellbeing.
