“DOING BUSINESS THE way people want it” is the philosophy of Toyota’s UK arm. Set up in 1965, this subsidiary works with its franchise dealers to supply, market and sell Toyota and Lexus vehicles around the country from its base in Epsom, Surrey.
This forward-thinking firm deploys innovative methods to attract talent, recruiting 22 undergraduate students each year through social media. President and managing director Paul Van Der Burgh and his senior management team reacted to feedback from the 310 employees by introducing personalised reward statements. This makes it easier for staff to take advantage of the benefits available to them, such as flexible working and health and fitness services.
Toyota’s headquarters is being transformed into a sustainable habitat for plants and wildlife, in line with the company’s global principle of working in harmony with nature. This includes a home for 8,000 endangered honeybees, and staff are encouraged to meet the beekeeper. Toyota cares about the environment (90% positive, ranking second), they say, as well as actively protecting it (83%, fourth).
