Founded in 1514 and based in London, Trinity House are dedicated to safeguarding shipping and seafarers. They’re responsible for providing and maintaining navigational aids such as lighthouses, light vessels, buoys and maritime radio/satellite communication systems.
The organisation is also an official deep-sea pilotage authority, offering expert navigators for ships trading in Northern-European waters. What’s more, they’re a maritime charity, dispersing funds for retired seamen, cadet training and the promotion of safety at sea. Each year, they donate around £4m to the charities they support.
Master of Trinity House is Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, while the Deputy Master is Captain Ian McNaught CVO MNM.
Their mission is to deliver a reliable, efficient and cost-effective aids-to-navigation service for all mariners, help ensure British commercial shipping is crewed by well-trained men and women, and ensure all mariners get support either directly or through grants to other maritime charities and initiatives.
