It also raises awareness about the risks of alcohol, drug and substance abuse and/or addiction, which can affect performance, conduct and relationships at work. TCHA promotes a culture based on trust, support and mutual respect within the workplace where employees are able to talk openly about their job and any mental health or substance misuse/dependency problems and to report difficulties without fear of discrimination or reprisal. TCHA adopts a positive approach to stress reduction and mental health promotion using good management and the development of initiatives to address problems. TCHA deals sympathetically and supportively with staff suffering mental health problems or substance misuse/dependency problems due to circumstances outside the workplace who consequently find it difficult to do their jobs properly.
