WHO NEEDS FACEBOOK when there’s FastBook? This Manchester-based cloud hosting and data centre firm has launched an app to help team members stay in touch. UKFast has appeared seven times as a Best Small Company to Work For, and enters our mid-size list in the top five.
The firm grew from 213 to 293 employees last year and has bought the office next door to adjoin a “campus” that already features a gym, creche, classrooms, Japanese spa garden and sleeping pods. Lawrence and Gail Jones founded the business in 1999 after trying to build a website and struggling so much with hosting providers that they decided to set up one of their own. Today UKFast keeps check-in desks open at UK airports, ensures public-sector organisations stay online and serves some of the world’s biggest brands.
Staff incentives include ski trips to Verbier, Switzerland, holidays in Las Vegas, a three-day music festival, and Friday drinks in the office bar. Individuals say their colleagues are fun to work with (92% positive, third).
They care about each other (90%, second), go out of their way to be helpful (91%, third) and are proud to work for UKFast (90%, fourth).
