Vivergo Fuels are a £350 million plant that takes locally produced wheat and turns it into bioethanol and animal feed. They are one of Europe’s biggest bioethanol producers and the UK’s largest single source supplier of animal feed.
Formed in 2007 as a joint venture between AB Sugar, BP and DuPont to create a biofuels business for the future, AB Sugar later acquired BP’s share to become the majority shareholder of Vivergo Fuels.
Before Vivergo Fuels, the UK was importing up to 80% of protein for livestock and dairy farming. Now, more than 100 highly-skilled people drive the business, which has created over 2,000 jobs in the UK across agriculture, logistics, professionals services and engineering.
The head office of Vivergo Fuels is in Hessle, while the plant is located in Hull. The Managing Director is Mark Chesworth.
