About Weston College

Weston College is an Ofsted outstanding college providing education and vocational training to nearly 30,000 learners, teaching a range of higher education courses, as well as 70 different apprenticeships.

Dedicated to the education and training of learners aged from 14+ and up to retirement age, their mission is focused around ‘Creating Brighter Futures’. This underpinning purpose of the college is driven through the development of a learning and working culture that is inclusive, aspirational and focused on assuring success and progression.

Located in Weston-super-Mare, Weston College’s roots can be traced back over 150 years, with the first documented educational building being built on the Knightstone Campus site by Archdeacon Henry Law in 1845.

The college is guided by a range of core values, including commitments to put the learner first; be entrepreneurial in approach and innovative in their thinking; be ambitious and aspirational; and value diversity and celebrate success.

What is it like to work for Weston College

Success is celebrated at least twice a year and there’s a zero-tolerance approach to poor performance. The Principal appoints every single member of staff and has introduced a PRP system. Staff who have left for more money often return, citing his leadership.

The college improves team interaction through conferences such as Love Learning, where the whole college debates and shares practice that supports learners and learning. Bespoke roles within teams are designed to support development and encourage staff to interact and engage with initiatives and best practice.

A bespoke management development programme has developed commercial acumen and knowledge of specific topical areas. This has led to promotional opportunities and excellent retention rates. A staff mentoring programme provides mentoring and support services to staff in their first year of employment.
