In 2014, in recognition of the need to develop and grow the management capability within the business, with the support of the Growth Accelerator Scheme, Workmates launched a blended management and leadership programme. The programme has been designed to equip their rising stars and key leaders with the skills they need to grow the business and develop their teams and take the business to its next stage and goal, to grow to a £100m turnover company within the next 5 years. Over 20% of employees are currently taking part in different elements of the programme.
Twelve team managers and Senior Recruiters are currently completing the APSCo Leadership and Management Training Programme, a six part course with CMI accreditation.
Their Senior Management team are working with carefully selected key industry figures and expert leadership trainers to create a clear growth strategy and vision for the business and to develop and equip them to deliver on the Company’s plans.

Workmates place strong emphasis on gathering the input from all colleagues – their CEO talks to everyone annually. They also hold quarterly Directors Lunches where a selected few are invited to lunch with the Directors in an informal setting with a relaxed atmosphere where they can share views.
Line managers undertake annual and mid year reviews with employees which is a two way communication. Ideas, suggestions and feedback is also given at these times, as well as weekly team meetings.
They have a very flat management structure which makes it easy for employees to comment and give opinions.

Four times a year the Company holds a Directors’ Lunch to gather together individuals from teams across the business who have made an exceptional contribution or achievement in the past quarter. The lunches are held in top restaurants and attended by the Directors of the Company, giving the attendees the opportunity to spend time with them and meet with other colleagues from across the business, in a relaxed and special environment.
