About Young Devon

What is it like to work for Young Devon

Personal Growth
Personal Growth
They have been piloting their "Dreamcatchers" project with the local authority giving apprenticeships for young people usually not eligible for this type of employment opportunity such as young people in Care, with a disability or with a significant disadvantage such as being homeless. The young people are given one-to-one support in gaining work experience and a qualification; however their journey to achieving that is tailored to their own stage of development through a person-centred plan. One of the young workers has just completed the 1st year of her foundation degree even though she started without a single recognised qualification.

My Team
My Team
Every team throughout young Devon organises a range of social events. Mostly they are combined with fund raising activities. In addition, they just hosted their second "Star U R" event. Last year they combined their Christmas meals with the Staff Conference at the request of the workforce to allow staff to find out more about each other and mix socially.

The organisation maintains regular communication with employees. A revised series of internal electronic communications were launched at the 2011 annual staff conference. Such annual events are key in building a sense of togetherness and organisational understanding for a geographically disparate charity. In 2011 the staff used interactive voting/comment systems at the meeting allowing for anonymous feedback to the ideas being discussed. Events such as this are important to Young Devon in order to share their values across the organisation. They have a Workforce Development Group established that will be analysing the results. They will then draw all those with line management responsibility together to disseminate the outcomes, share the analysis and develop a SMART action plan to continue the process of work force improvement.
