About YPO

YPO supplies products and services to a wide range of customers including schools, local authorities, charities, emergency services, public sector and other businesses such as nurseries and care homes.

They were established over four decades ago by local government authorities to help combine their procurement demands and achieve efficiency savings. Today they are still 100% publicly owned, but work with even more organisations to achieve the same goal.

Since 2014, they’ve been able to supply private organisations through YPO Procurement Holdings Limited, established and owned by their 13 member authorities. This opened new market opportunities; enabling customers who have natural affinity with YPO such as private nurseries and childminders to trade with them.

With a customer-orientated, caring and collaborative employee culture, YPO aim to deliver its mission of becoming the UK’s number one public sector buying organisation.

What is it like to work for YPO

Wellbeing
Wellbeing
YPO organise a Health and Wellbeing Day which gives staff an opportunity to learn more about their own health and wellbeing and how to help others too. They provide talks and advice throughout the day by different organisations.

A number of employees also volunteer to help students at two local academies, Rodillian Academy, and Outwood Grange. They help students consider what they want to do once they leave school, finding out if they want to go to university or college or find work or an apprenticeship. Once the student has made that decision their staff mentors help them explore which university or college they want to attend or what type of employment they would like and then help them with the process of their chosen path.

YPO's annual "Big Day" not only provides an opportunity for all staff to network, it also includes their staff awards ceremony to celebrate their achievements and success. They have five award categories which support their values and competencies and the winners are picked by a staff judging panel and announced on the day by the Board. Each year they receive around 70 submissions for the employee awards, so to win one of the five awards is a true accolade.
