The Lincolnshire Housing Partnership, better known as LHP, is a 12,700 home landlord with a vision to provide great homes and build strong communities. As a charitable community based organisation, it channels profits back into services and projects that benefit its customers and local neighbourhoods.
As well as developing strong communities, the organisation sees developing high-quality employees as a critical success factor for everything that it aims to achieve. LHP invests in its people and gives employees the opportunity to develop their skills, ensuring that LHP remains an employer of choice.
One of the organisation’s strategic priorities is to support and develop its employees and it passionately wants to develop its staff by giving them the additional skills that they can use within LHP and outside of work.
The organisation runs a Corporate Training Programme that provides employees with the freedom to attend training courses, giving them the ability to achieve success. Courses focus on three key areas that align to a familiar model from MGI training, emphasising the need for both people skills (how a task is completed) and technical skills (what they do).
To put these skills into practice, there needs to be an understanding of the “LHP way”. The key driving force in the Corporate Training Programme is that it encourages employee accountability and promotes employees to be in control of their own learning by having conversations with their managers about their development.
People in my team go out of their way to help me
Teams at the organisation are encouraged to build working relationships through regular team meetings that provide structure and support to a typical day or week. Teams also have quarterly get-togethers and wellbeing events are hosted by the wellbeing team. LHP also arrange community events such as canal rubbish cleaning.
I believe I can make a valuable contribution to the success of this organisation
The organisation uses SharePoint as a source of news for everyone in the company. It hosts an annual company conference to allow everyone to get together, alongside smaller team and directorate meet ups. Everything is reinforced by the “LHP way” and its new People & Culture Framework which details the behaviours expected from staff.
I feel that my manager talks openly and honestly with me
All managers at LHP attend a four-day programme which teaches them some basic managerial skills, with topics including: what is good leadership, effective communication, performance management, managing a team, my impact on the organisation, delegation, motivation and morale, decision making, analysing what is going well, and action planning. Managers can also study numerous other modules.
