Noble Foods may mill 800,000 tonnes of animal feed annually and pack 60 million British Lion-approved eggs every week, but it maintains its family-owned ethos.
Known for Britain's leading egg brand, The Happy Egg Co., the company was founded more than 100 years ago when a young William Dean started delivering eggs to his local community in Hertfordshire. It now has 250 producers UK-wide and employs almost 1300 staff – still with the Dean family at the helm.
To 'care together' is one of Noble Food's key principles, and it's evident in the Noble People Partnership. It allows colleagues to share collective success, with everyone recently receiving £200 each.
And responding to calls from staff for improved communication between teams, Noble Foods has introduced a digital platform which allows colleagues from every business unit to communicate, whether it's drivers sharing travel updates, the leadership team giving business news, or somebody celebrating an important milestone. It also hosts a live 'talk to Duncan' with the CEO every two months, and staff can create their own groups and communities.
Noble Foods has also introduced more development and training programmes on the say-so of employees. This has included welcoming its first cohort of HGV driver apprentices and recruiting junior farm managers onto farm management apprenticeships. It's also working with some young people to support their early careers and with the Adgir Academy to help those with learning difficulties into work.
