North Wales Housing (NWH) aims to 'transform lives with great homes, quality services and support'.
The Llandudno Junction based housing association knows this can only be achieved by having a striving, dedicated team, so it does as much as possible to support its 'NWH family.'
The organisation – which provides homes and delivers services to over 2,700 households – specialises in properties and services that support elderly and vulnerable people, such as those who are homeless or have mental health issues, to live independently, confidently, and seize opportunities.
And it wants its employees to enjoy a bright future too, offering them a range of benefits, support and career opportunities.
NWH has a dedicated health and wellbeing programme, CALON, which actively shares and promotes relevant resources, mindfulness and yoga sessions and social opportunities from walks to nights out and shows.
The organisation signed the Time to Change Wales pledge to end mental health stigma and discrimination in the workplace, and all managers and frontline workers are undergoing training in positive mental health and wellbeing.
Celebrating achievements is central to life at NWH, with 'Extra Mile Awards' encouraging colleagues to nominate each other for a job well done and the chance to win a £50 voucher.
And NWH's 'Rising Stars' programme aims to tap into the enthusiasm and ambition of its employees, enabling them to work with other departments and housing associations to get experience and uncover best practice. They also get time with the Chair and Chief Executive to learn from their career journeys.
This organisation is run on strong values / principles
Employees are always kept up to date on organisational developments and colleagues' good news, as well as getting the opportunity to ask questions and feedback. There's an internal comms platform where staff can post photos and share ideas, quarterly staff briefings and listening sessions, weekly team meetings and regular formal and informal one-to-ones.
My manager cares about me as an individual
Managers can access external leadership training programmes via ILM or ION. Internal masterclasses offer guidance on line management and employment processes, and all members of the Senior Leadership Team are undertaking coaching and mentoring qualifications. NWH also provides secondment opportunities and the chance to work on cross-team projects.
My organisation encourages charitable activities
A focus charity is chosen annually, with the latest being RNLI Wales. There are several charity events throughout the year in and outside work. These have included dragon boat racing and family get-togethers. NWH also supports individual schemes to fundraise and organise their own community benefit events.
