At The Organic Agency – which describes itself as “the digital agency for a human world”— staff are given the flexibility to build work around their lives, enabling a better work/life balance for all.

With its headquarters in Exeter, the firm helps brands use technology to better connect with their audiences. Its team of experts shares the goal of creating positive digital experiences to improve customers' lives.

During the lockdowns of 2020/2021, The Organic Agency enabled employees to reschedule their working hours to fit in with their own personal circumstances and to help them cope with the added pressures of such unusual times.

With the shift to home working, the organisation has increased the regularity of team meetings and social events so colleagues can enjoy participating in fun activities such as making bread, pizzas, and pancakes.

Fancy dress, ‘Pets at Work’, scavenger hunts and quizzes have also been introduced to liven up the working day, especially on Fridays.

Putting employee wellbeing at the forefront of the business, team members at Organic are given a wellbeing allowance to spend on themselves, as well as being encouraged to participate in walking and running challenges, virtual yoga and weekly meditation and fitness classes.

The organisation also recognises the imbalance with diversity and inclusion in the marketing sector and wants to ensure it is making a positive impact on the world. With this in mind, the organisation proactively introduces placements and internships with the help of local education providers to support those from BAME Backgrounds.

It’s been a challenging 18 months for our team and one where we’ve redoubled our efforts in building a robust and supportive culture, open communication, and an acute sensitivity towards the mental health and wellbeing of every individual. We’ve supported the team in working where and when suits their needs best, providing equipment for home use as well as a safe and flexible office environment out of the home. As a way to directly support mental health challenges, we’ve integrated Spill, an all-in-one mental health support through Slack, that has boosted morale and improve psychological engagement, offering easy access and anonymous counselling and therapeutic support. It’s been a lot of work but our team is stronger than ever. Ongoing employee engagement is vital to the success of the business and we look forward to building on this year’s success in the years to come.
