Price Bailey was founded in 1938 with one office in Bishop's Stortford and a single partner. Today it has 36 partners with locations in London, East Anglia and a strategic international presence.
The Managing Director has, through choice, retained a client portfolio to ensure he maintains an understanding of how the firm's systems and procedures are working.
That's not to say Price Bailey's senior leaders take life too seriously. Some can be found with their heads and hands in stocks on charity day, facing a barrage of wet sponges! The firm partners with a different charity each year, with funds matched by Price Bailey up to a maximum of £50,000 per year.
Price Bailey has a large number of trainee accountants, who are taken on as apprentices and at graduate level. All teams have a buddy system in place to support new employees’ onboarding. The firm encourages people to become experts in their field through their enhanced Step Ahead development programme.
Smart Working, their own flexible working scheme, recognises that people have lives outside of work, placing an emphasis on working smarter not harder and enabling all employees to balance their work and home life where they need.
Wellbeing and Mental Health ambassadors volunteer their time to help individuals who may need urgent or impartial support and signposting. All ambassadors are trained via Mental Health First Aid for England and are part of a working group to discuss key issues, ensuring that wellbeing is at the forefront within Price Bailey.

To build strong team spirit and relationships, Price Bailey organise a variety of social events through the year for individual teams, offices, or the whole firm together. Most recently the socials that were organised have been trips to Newmarket Nights, Christmas parties, football socials, quiz nights, casino nights, team meals, and escape rooms.

The organisation has implemented its own Smart Working initiative, creating a flexible working environment by placing the emphasis on working smarter not harder. This enables employees to balance their work and home life. Price Bailey also has a Wellbeing Agenda covering seven key areas – health, environment, values, social, growth, lifestyle and financial.

The MD sends a weekly update to all staff addressing everything from the firm’s strategy to wellbeing resources that are available to employees. The MD also attends the induction sessions for all new employees to provide an overview of the history, culture, values, principles, and strategic direction of the business.
