As a mutual organisation, Scottish Building Society is owned by and run for the benefit of its members. Everyone who opens a savings account or has a mortgage with the firm becomes a member.

Scottish Building Society doesn’t have external shareholders and is only accountable to its members, so unlike many other financial institutions, it don’t have dividends to pay. That means any surplus profits are reinvested in the Society to benefit its members and ensure it has sufficient funds to invest in the future and remain financially strong.
