Anonymity. It's one of the biggest concerns people have when completing a survey, however, when they fill in their survey if an employee thinks that their responses will be monitored, either they won't answer at all, or worse, they won't be truthful, making the amalgamated data misleading and therefore useless.

In order for voices to be heard and actions to be taken, we need honest feedback. This is why when your organisation runs a Best Companies bHeard survey, your individual responses are never accessible by anyone associated with you or your workplace.

In fact, after the initial setup, your organisation doesn't come into contact with the surveys at all. When you submit your survey, your responses are recorded, compiled, and processed only by Best Companies.

This information is securely held on an encrypted server and only available as processed, anonymised data through our Workplace Insight Tool and the downloadable reports.

Can't we just use false names? Good question. Unfortunately not. While your employer doesn't need to know your name, we do.

It's the only way to make sure that we've linked the right data to the right part of your organisation as it can be, without ever compromising the integrity or confidentiality of the responses.

We generate insights by compiling data, looking for trends, comparing benchmarks, and tracking change.

We do this with groups of a minimum size of five, so no departments or demographics of one will ever be exposed through deduction.

Managerial engagement scores are based on the response of at least three employees, and these two are locked and amalgamated before being shared. The only real risk to anonymity comes from how you choose to complete the comment section.

Here you are free to elaborate on how you feel about your workplace by answering two questions in your own words.

To avoid risking your own anonymity, try not to be too specific about people in locations that affect you day-to-day.

Don't mention anyone by name, including yourself, and try not to use words or phrases that only you use. We take anonymity very seriously.

We are legally protected from granting any organisation access to the individual data, and we have rigorous checks and algorithms that will help identify organisations that are deliberately influencing their employees' responses. The reputation and credibility of Best Companies relies on our data being accurate, independent, and completely anonymous.
