At the end of each week, an all-staff meeting discusses successes from the past week, highlights key pieces of work, gives out prizes and announces incentives, along with strategies for the coming week. The "wrap-up" is hosted by a different team member each time and everybody is invited to contribute a topic or think piece.
After the last staff survey, SEC introduced changes in response to what staff said they wanted. The company brought in a dress-down policy, increased holiday allowance, reviewed and increased salaries and launched a mentorship scheme.
Last year, in partnership with In2ScienceUK, the company launched the SEC Scholars initiative, a five-year programme that will provide at least 50 young people with the guidance, mentorship and practical skills for a career in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. It supported 11 students through the programme and this year will help 11 more.
