Continuing to grow and attract new talent into its business during the pandemic has been a priority for IT managed services company, Acora. The large private sector firm based in London, Sussex and the Midlands, which welcomed 77 new staff in 2020, knows that a good pay cheque and bonus or sporadic attempts to make staff happy are not enough to attract and retain talented staff.

The personal touch is very important at Acora, which in light of the pandemic quickly introduced 'CEO live' broadcasts from boss David Rabson, including an interactive Q&A section where employees could ask him questions, raise concerns and get an immediate response. He also emails employees directly with praise and recognition when they have done something well and when they have experienced difficult personal events.

The recently revamped values; Be The Best You Can Be, We Do What We Say and Together We Win underpin the way things are done at Acora. Examples of these are highlighted by Rabson in his broadcasts and through the firm's recognition programmes.

Since the pandemic, and driven from the top, Acora has renewed its focus on internal communications and career development and while the remote working environment has presented new and different ways of engaging employees, the underlying approach of giving staff clarity, consistency and support has not changed. Personal development is top of the agenda in monthly 1:1s at Acora where the focus is on building and rewarding a truly team-based ethos.
