Best Company

A careers fair and networking event at managed IT services company, Acora, gave staff the chance to gain insight into how they contributed to the business and how other departments worked, as well as be made aware of the opportunities on offer within the company.

Career development has become a priority at the large private sector business, which is based in London, Sussex and the Midlands. It recognises that a good pay cheque and bonus, or sporadic attempts to make staff happy, are not enough to attract and retain talented staff. It has provided a career framework for the service operations and support services department, encouraging visibility on how they are structured to make staff aware of how they can progress.

Managers have been encouraged to coach their teams, and one-to-one sessions give employees the chance to discuss their career paths. Staff also have access to LinkedIn Learning.

Acora has also revamped its approach to work-life balance, fair pay, recognition, cross-team collaboration and interpersonal skills, to make sure staff are happy and engaged with the business.

The personal touch is important at Acora and the "CEO Live" broadcasts from boss David Rabson, which began during the pandemic, have been continued. They include a Q&A section where employees ask him questions, raise concerns and get an immediate response.

From the individuals within the Acora team, to the growing customer base, one of the clear values Acora embeds into each area across the business is #togetherwewin.
