From Elton John and the Arctic Monkeys to the All Blacks, Bristol’s Ashton Gate Stadium is used to hosting big names in the world of entertainment and sport.
And the busy conference and events venue gives every booking the same care and attention, whether it’s international stars or local people looking for a quality venue for corporate away days, weddings or proms.
The 27,000-seat stadium – home to Championship club Bristol City and Rugby Union side Bristol Bears – has a dedicated team of over 150 employees, ensuring every event is memorable and seamless.
In the words of Ashton Gate, ‘We’re not just a stadium, we’re a community – a family of team members… passionate about service and the opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives.’
And for some employees, this dedication is reflected in more than 30 years of service. This year, the company aims to capitalise on the experience of these long-serving team members and the enthusiasm of younger staff to see how it can best serve the needs of a ‘fast-paced, ever-changing business’.
The Stadium is developing new connections with local colleges and raising the profile of career opportunities at job fairs. It has also taken on 15 Kick Start candidates – a government scheme giving 16-24-year-olds at risk of long-term unemployment the opportunity to earn money, gaining independence and confidence in the process.
I am happy with the balance between my work and home life

Employees can access numerous services relating to mental, physical and financial wellbeing. And local businesses have been invited to share their expertise, including a chiropractor, to help staff who spend a lot of time standing or sitting.
This organisation is run on strong values / principles
From regular Town Halls and one-to-ones to weekly departmental updates and sales meetings, listening and collaboration are promoted throughout the business. The senior team regularly spends time with employees at all levels, and an environment of honesty and accountability creates the space for innovative ideas and development opportunities.

‘Sustainable success’ is a vital part of the Stadium’s mission. Local food banks benefit from the food that’s left over on matchdays. And employees enjoy reduced bus fares – encouraging the use of public transport over cars and reducing commuting costs. Ashton Gate also actively promotes car sharing and its cycle-to-work scheme.
