The pandemic has been a tough and unsettling time for everyone but even more so for those with life-threatening health conditions. Blood Cancer UK, a charity dedicated to funding research into all blood cancers, including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma and supporting those affected, has played a key role in ensuring patients have had access to accurate and up-to-date information about the potential impact of Covid and the efficacy of vaccines on people with their condition.
Founded in 1960, the organisation formerly known as Bloodwise until it rebranded last year, has been coordinating with other charities to lobby government to provide match funding for medical research charities as a result of losses due to the pandemic.
Over the last 61 years, the charity, which is headquartered in London with an office in Edinburgh and staff based around the UK, has invested more than £500 million in blood cancer research resulting in many breakthroughs that have improved treatments and saved lives. The medium-size organisation operates an agile working policy which is focused on results and allows flexibility on working times and locations.
Staff, who were gifted a four day weekend in October as a thank-you for their hard work, are driven by their employer's mission to beating blood cancer within a generation and values which include striving for results, making knowledge count, standing in others' shoes and being united as a family.
