Employees at Cairngorms National Park Authority work amid a spectacular landscape, made up of lochs, moorland and mountains. The authority is responsible for Britain's largest national park, making up almost 1.5 square miles in the Scottish Highlands.
The area is home to wildlife, including reindeer, wildcats, red squirrels, ospreys and eagles. The authority was set up in 2003 to ensure that the unique aspects of the Cairngorms — the natural environment and the local communities — are cared for, sustained and enhanced for current and future generations to enjoy.
It provides leadership to all those involved in the Cairngorms and works in partnership with a range of communities, businesses, non-government organisations and public sector partners.
The organisation places importance on staff training and, on top of appraisal-led training, staff can spend three days a year joining volunteering activities in the park as part of the John Muir Award scheme for conservation or environmental work, or shadowing colleagues on other teams. Staff are also encouraged to make suggestions to managers on how to improve ways of working.
Chief Executive, Grant Moir, says: "Engaging and listening to the employees of the park authority is important to help us understand staff issues, deliver our mission and ensure that we are always improving as an organisation. How we work together as a team is crucial to how we help deliver for the national park and I always want to hear of ways we can get better and also build on what already works."
