Vehicle discounts are a key perk for team members at Car Benefit Solutions (CBS), the industry experts in provision of Employee Car Ownership schemes. Staff enjoy a comprehensive benefits and rewards package covering health and wellbeing, and flexible working at the company, based in Bury.

Begun in 2002 with five people, CBS has expanded into a workforce of about 150 with a strong family feel and prides itself on creating a positive environment. The team offers tax-efficient schemes which give staff cheap deals on cars and provide employers with a powerful recruitment and retention tool.

Creative communication and staff wellbeing have been the focus during a difficult year. Alongside pride, continuous improvement, accountability and integrity, enjoyment is one of the CBS values and the company was determined to “bring joy” during the challenges of the pandemic by delivering surprises to staff at home – “just because”.

Everyone was sent pancake mix to enter a competition to make the best pancakes on Shrove Tuesday. As well as regular business updates and welfare calls, staff have been invited to whole-company virtual quiz nights and each department ran social activities. One event, based on Through the Keyhole, was so popular it was extended across the workforce.

A company intranet was one of the changes introduced in response to feedback from the 2020 engagement survey. Employees' preferences will be taken into account for post-pandemic working practices and CBS says it will bring in more home-working roles by making technology more efficient.

Employees can volunteer for a cause for a day. When the pandemic made fundraising difficult, CBS helped one local charity to resurface its car park, and donated a month's toiletries for homeless people. CBS also backed a staff member who raised money by changing his hair colour every month.
