Luxury tour operator Carrier used its greatest asset - its people - to give back during the pandemic. Staff volunteered as Call Companions for charity Re-engage which paired them with isolated elderly people whom they committed to calling weekly.

Established nearly 30 years ago, and with royalty and celebrities amongst its clients, Carrier prides itself on the discreet, attentive and bespoke service provided by its highly knowledgeable and well-travelled staff. Travel is made to order at Manchester-based Carrier which curates lavish holidays that dreams are made of, from a night in an ice hotel, to a stay at the only hotel in the world situated on a F1 race track and an iconic road trip through California.

Like their high-end clients, staff can only fantasise about holidays just now but that hasn't stopped them rounding up their top destination for once the latest lockdown rules are lifted, including some of the best remote islands in the Maldives.

Carrier's “It's about how we make people feel” philosophy has been at the heart of decision-making during the pandemic.

Every employee's personal circumstances were considered with flexibility to accommodate work/life balance and home schooling challenges. Carrier, which has a travel boutique in Alderley Edge, has kept staff feeling engaged with regular business updates and a range of virtual social events including a Who Wants to be a Millionaire? Christmas quiz.

I believe I can make a valuable contribution to the success of this organisation

The experience I gain from this job is valuable for my future

My Team

89% of staff agreed

My team is fun to work with

Staff can show their appreciation to colleagues who have gone the extra mile by emailing in a thank-you which is then shared with the workforce in the staff newsletter. Carrier also recognises a job well done with shout outs at team meetings and small gifts.
