NATURAL GAS EXTRACTED by Centrica Storage staff from rock 9,000ft under the North Sea off the Yorkshire coast is more than 200m years old. The amount piped from the Rough storage rigs in the southern North Sea to the Langeled receiving terminal and Easington processing site in east Yorkshire is enough to supply up to a 10th of Britain's peak day-time demand. Centrica's key role in the market may explain why its employees are not overly worried about the company's future (a 70% positive score) in spite of the economic climate, and feel that their jobs are secure (75%). They say their organisation makes a positive difference to the world (71%). The firm, which is a subsidiary of energy giant Centrica, finished 15 places higher this year than sister company Centrica Energy in the top 100 Best Companies to Work for list. Almost half of Centrica Storage's workers are paid between £55,000 and £100,000 and offshore operations technicians, the most usual role, get an average salary of just under £59,000. Employees are happy with the pay and benefits they receive (67%) and feel that they are paid fairly for their responsibilities (60%). They give the company an overall Fair Deal ranking of 46th (61%). Nearly a third of the workforce have been with the organisation for 15 or more years. They feel they can make a difference in the organisation (78%) and believe they can make a valuable contribution to its success (81%). Wellbeing at Centrica Storage is a fundamental pillar of the company's employee strategy. The company is committed to healthy employees for a healthy organisation and works to be proactive to support their employees and ensure they are well and safe at work. They have a dedicated and enthusiastic Occupational Health and Wellbeing manager who drives awareness and best practices across the business.
