Certsure was born out of a partnership between Electrical Safety First and the Electrical Contractors Association (ECA) and is dedicated to providing professional services and certification to a wide range of customers across the electrical contracting sector.
With technical integrity the foundation stone, with its services and products government-recognised and United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) approved, training for all 300 employees, split into six cross-functional teams, is crucial to its ongoing success.
It runs two formal leadership and management programmes with the first aimed at broadening leadership perspective, understanding the business and driving collaboration. The second is designed to develop the skills of mostly non-management employees in improving business performance through an apprenticeship programme.
Project managers are coached throughout their assignments to improve their skillsets and all business improvement teams are coached by an expert in business improvement techniques.
The company looks to reward employees for their continued efforts throughout the year through a profit related pay scheme linked to individual performance. The scheme has helped bring employees together, working towards a common goal and focused on ensuring that Certsure is successful. With the wider community in mind, they can contribute at least £2 per month to charity through a payroll lottery.
My manager shares important knowledge and information with me
Managers are supported through a range of vehicles including weekly pandemic management meetings, monthly people leadership sessions and guidance on how to manage remote teams effectively while ensuring they can work safely from home. Coffee and chat meetings have been introduced to reduce home working isolation.
I believe I can make a valuable contribution to the success of this organisation
Company-wide communications have improved radically through the adoption of Microsoft Teams and its videoconferencing and chat capabilities. With no history of using the technology, the leadership team introduced a pattern of daily, weekly and monthly and ‘Town Hall' meetings that have kept their teams engaged and working interactively.
My organisation encourages charitable activities
To help maintain fitness during the pandemic, Certsure set its teams a task of walking the distance from its Bedfordshire HQ to New York (3439 miles) in six weeks. The response was immediate and effective, smashing the target in 10 days and raising £3,500 for the Electrical Industries Charity.
