Providing support for unpaid family carers and the people they look after in Hertfordshire, it’s no surprise that passion and commitment are part of Crossroads Care’s way of life.
Starting out as a respite provider to support unpaid family carers, the team at Crossroads now delivers homecare services to anyone needing support with their daily living needs.
It’s an organisation that cares for people, not profit, and it believes that the best way to care for its clients is to offer the best possible work environment for its staff.
Priding itself on a warm and nurturing culture, wellbeing support features high on the agenda at Crossroads Care. Staff are encouraged to speak openly about how they are feeling and there’s opportunity to discuss any concerns.
The organisation offers flexibility when it comes to working hours to ensure all employees can achieve an optimal balance, and there’s information, tips, and advice on offer through a monthly wellness update.
Crossroads Care knows that the best advocates for its employer brand are its employees, and it has shared videos and written stories from existing staff on social media explaining why they like working for the organisation.
It has a strong focus on human contact ahead of interviewing new candidates for roles, ensuring that everyone receives a phone call to help build relationships and ask any questions before they even get to the formal recruitment stages.
I feel a strong sense of family in my team
Through its ‘Your Voice’ initiative, Crossroads has focused on improving the working lives of its people, getting their views on future plans, sharing ideas for improvements around topics such as pay, travel, recruiting and keeping people, learning and development, and other things that matter to staff.
This organisation is run on strong values / principles
Its leaders regularly communicate relevant information and updates about the charity, share stories and photos of clients and staff and any compliments that have been sent in that week. Additionally, it attends a yearly virtual AGM where leaders invite clients, professionals, and staff; focusing on acknowledging the great work of its people throughout the year.
The training in this job is a great benefit to me personally
New starters are inducted with fundamental care training. Once that is complete, they are supported with a tailored learning and development programme, meeting their individual needs. They are supported in achieving the Care Certificate and discuss any additional needs with their manager to create a learning plan that could include accredited qualifications in social care.
