Promoting a collaborative culture throughout the business, Educ8 introduced a peer mentoring scheme allowing employees to ‘buddy’ up with colleagues to support with their development and share best practice, as well as setting up multiple group chat functions on Microsoft teams and WhatsApp to allow employees to communicate with one another. Team members have welcomed this support mechanism which prevents the feeling of isolation and gives a sense of team belonging.

Founded in 2004 to support the health and social care sector with fewer than 15 people and a small contract with a work-based learning provider, Educ8 now delivers more than 30 apprenticeships to over 800 businesses and nearly 2,000 learners across Wales. The enterprise has grown both organically and through the acquisition of three businesses, today employing almost 200 people.

Honesty, Integrity, Respect and Positivity are the core values of the organisation which prides itself on its supportive and nurturing culture and rewards effort and commitment through initiatives, including monthly and annual Gr8 staff recognition awards and long service awards.

Focusing on the future, Educ8 implemented a Build Back Better strategy setting out a clear vision for the business. Build Back Better ‘Re-Innov8’ created a roadmap resulting in a higher quality, efficient and a richer blended learning experience for learners and employers using digital technologies and online learning.

Mentoring sessions have been established for managers with members of the Senior Leadership Team, and are part of Educ8's new management development programme, investing money and time into those aspiring managers. These sessions allow open and transparent questioning around how the SLT perform their role, barriers they face and how they behave in challenging circumstances.

Taking on board the research and feedback, the Educ8 Board agreed to provide all employers with 30 minutes “rejuven8 time” each day from 1.00pm – 1.30pm to focus on their own personal mental health and wellbeing. To support employees health and safety working from home the company provided all staff with £150 ‘Healthy Workstation Allowance’.

Educ8 has supported a local care home with digital tablets and personal protective equipment at the time when face masks were in short supply. They also continued to support local charities, St David's Foundation and Parkinson’s, as well as raising over £500 and donating items to the local community following extreme weather conditions.
