FRASER HART JEWELLERS ensures staff don't lose their sparkle, with weekly training and development for everybody. This is in addition to any course or qualification they are already doing and workers, one in five of whom have been at the company for at least a decade, do not feel bored with the work they do (the 79% positive score being the ninth best result for this question). A total annual spend of £200,000 — about £445 per employee — pays for everything from basic jewellery qualifications to business masters-level education and employees say the training is of great benefit to them (74%) and that Glasgow-based Fraser Hart makes good use of their skills (57%). Both are top-25 scores. Formed as a local family jeweller in 1936, Fraser Hart, a new entry in our list, specialises in supplying diamond rings, watches and other gifts and almost a third (31%) of the workforce is aged 25 or younger. There are cycle-to-work and car-sharing schemes, which are part of the reason staff say their health is not suffering because of their jobs (82%, ranked tenth). Fraser Hart's highest factor ranking of 16th (69%) is for Wellbeing questions, which measure how people feel about stress and pressure at work, and employees say deadlines are realistic and work does not overly interfere with domestic life (both 72%, and both ranked 17th). Flexible working is encouraged and staff have 20-25 days holiday a year. Team members work 34 hours a week, compared with 40 at supervisor level and 50 for senior managers, and employees do not feel as if they are under so much pressure at work that they can't concentrate (76%). Chief executive Noel Coyle decided to enhance the company's level of employee engagement four years ago and the results of surveys are fed back to staff. Prizes, including Christmas trips to Lapland for staff with their families, are given to reward strong financial performance and efforts in line with company values. Work is an important part of life (83%, ranked 12th). There are monthly one-to-one meetings between managers and all staff, which are not just for business updates and performance reviews, and bosses motivate people to give their best every day (72%).
