External maintenance business Ground Control is "on a mission to leave the world a better place than we found it" with the help of its 1100+ strong team of "improvers, enhancers, creators and shapers".
The Essex-based business carries out a range of services for its clients, from undertaking grounds maintenance and biodiversity action plans to creating woodlands and sports areas.
It's carried out emergency tree repair work for Southern Water after storms and helped develop a children's play area at Royal Botanical Gardens Kew.
Ground Control is proud of the work its people do to "nurture environments and enhance lives", and its Evergreen Fund is about scaling that up. It donates five per cent of all its profits to companies, and social enterprises focused on sustainability and carbon reduction, whether that's internet-connected thermostats for housing associations or developing clean, reliable and affordable energy.
Ad there's more than 'doing good' that makes Ground Control a great place to work.
Depending on the nature of the work, employees can choose when and where they work, starting as early as 7am or finishing as late as 7pm. They get up to five paid-for volunteering days a year, and there's a bi-annual bonus and a company car scheme – the largest fleet of Tesla vehicles in the UK.
Thinking about a career at Ground Control? You'll get the opportunity to work with the team you'd be joining on an 'experience day' to help you get to know people and understand the systems and culture.
I am happy with the balance between my work and home life
Employees can access free external mental health and wellbeing support services, including counselling, an online GP and a sleep and meditation app. There's also subsidised gym membership and free activities such as badminton and football at head office. Many staff are also trained Mental Health First Aiders, always on hand to offer support.
I believe I can make a valuable contribution to the success of this organisation
The company's meeting structure balances the virtual and face-to-face, with set meet-up locations for hybrid and in-person meetings. And staff have plenty of opportunities to feedback on this and other issues, including the yearly engagement survey, working groups on new initiatives and pulse surveys to give instant feedback on things like the summer conference.
The experience I gain from this job is valuable for my future
There are many opportunities to progress, with a vast library of online learning and prizes for completing 'courses of the month'. There are horticulture and arborist apprenticeships, a GC Leadership Academy and technical training. And the induction programme for new starters sets them up with training to hit the ground running.
