Solicitors at award-winning legal firm Harrison Drury & Co Ltd look at every situation with a client hat on, pulling out all the stops to get the right results, whether it is a commercial or personal matter. The business, founded in Preston in 1901, is recognised within The Legal 500, the clients' guide to the best global legal firms and lawyers, and ranks as one of the most well-regarded and respected companies in the Northwest.
The firm also strives to be an employer of choice, giving clients access to passionate, talented legal advisers, and providing its people with an enjoyable and rewarding career.
Harrison Drury's employees are at the heart of its business and the company has a steadfast commitment to maintaining a culture that challenges the conventional law firm approach. It offers an exciting, rewarding and supportive working environment, allowing staff to deliver an outstanding client service and make a positive impact in their communities.
The firm's people have been keen to give back during the pandemic. A couple of offices collected for foodbanks and one employee undertook a skydive that raised more than £1,500 for a local hospice.
In the same spirit, staff were handed a Christmas hamper to tuck into at the virtual Christmas party. All the food and drink came from small independent Lancashire-based firms and the company was fortunate enough to meet most of the suppliers face-to-face – while of course adhering to social distancing guidelines – to thank them personally.
I believe I can make a valuable contribution to the success of this organisation
CEO John Chesworth surveyed employees and the results indicated that leadership, clear vision, the working environment, culture, and accountability all matter to secure the future of the firm. A values and behaviours framework was subsequently introduced and a head of professional development appointed to oversee personal growth areas, including the recently launched HD Academy.
The experience I gain from this job is valuable for my future
The company sees personal development as key and all managers are enrolled on an external corporate coaching service which focuses on areas including personal effectiveness training, results-centred leadership, and effective team management. Once restrictions lift, employees will again be able to access bespoke Skillswise modules which lead to a Level 3 management diploma.
My organisation encourages charitable activities
In 2020, the firm made the swap to bamboo hand towels and lavatory rolls across, supplied by B-Corporation business The Cheeky Panda. The accreditation denotes the highest sustainability certification achievable, so with these purchases Harrison Drury contributes to a circular product process that does not involve deforestation.
