Founded in 2006 by childhood friends, Will Beckett and Huw Gott, Hawksmoor is a steak & seafood restaurant and cocktail bar chain based across the UK and in New York.
The organisation believes that everything in its business stands and falls with its people, and that they are truly at the heart of the business.
Hawksmoor pays particular attention to the physical and mental health of its staff. It has Mental Health First Aiders at every site and regularly run mental health awareness training for all staff. Additionally, its benefits package provides unlimited counselling sessions for all staff and income protection insurance.
The organisation takes care of its employees’ physical health through a number of initiatives including: regular fitness challenges across the company; cycle to work support and Dr Bike days ensuring employees’ bikes are roadworthy; gym discounts; balanced and healthy food for staff; free chiropractic assessments; and free yearly eye tests for computer based employees.
As well as caring for the wellbeing of its employees, Hawksmoor cares for the wellbeing of the environment. It has received B Corp certification status and has further received a maximum three star rating from the Sustainable Restaurant Association.
Hawksmoor is a completely carbon neutral restaurant group that uses all green electricity, has all electric kitchens at its two newest sites, has zero waste to landfill with all food waste turned into green gas by anaerobic digestion, and all of its beef coming from farms that are undergoing carbon foot-printing within the next 2 years.

To ensure that the organisation’s vision was being shared across all employees, Hawksmoor created a new role called ‘Culture GM’. This person looked after the liaison between support teams, operations, and the restaurant teams, ensuring clarity of the organisation’s operational strategy was being delivered in-person and across all channels to everyone in the company.

The organisation runs a four-level management development programme which starts with employees at ‘head’ level and runs through their careers to senior leadership roles. It also provides technical, skills, and knowledge based development training for roles such as procurement and stock management. Additionally, internal WSET educators deliver formal qualification training to all teams.

Hawksmoor do a minimum of two listening surveys a year to get feedback on how it’s performing in key focus areas and general employee wellbeing. One thing highlighted was the need for more financial support. As a result, the organisation launched a new benefit, Wagestream, offering a financial wellbeing coach, saving support, and earnings tracker.
