Scott Davies, the founder and managing director of Hilltop Honey, wants to make sure life is sweet for his staff. "Our employees have played a critical role in the entirety of the success we have experienced. We are committed to employee engagement at every level of the organisation here at Hilltop," he says.

Hilltop was founded in 2011, when Davies started beekeeping as a hobby after a back injury meant he was unable to work and he was given his first hive as a birthday present. He shared the golden nectar with his friends and family — and then local shops wanted some, too. Fast forward to today and Hilltop has moved out of Davies’s parents' back garden and into its own headquarters.

Based in Newtown, in Powys, mid-Wales, the company makes honey, as well as maple and agave syrups. It has recently expanded to make beauty and sports nutrition products, such as its Natural Beeswax Lip Balm and Natural Energy gels.

Products are sold through big retailers such as Tesco, Sainsbury's, Holland and Barrett, Waitrose and Morrisons. The company says the dedication, loyalty and hard work of its staff have enabled it to expand at an incredible pace. It continues to increase its workforce, while investing in company-wide initiatives to maintain its productive and rewarding working environment.

A project important to it is its work with ClimatePartner, which enables companies to become carbon neutral. It will also be supporting local environmental projects through the Hilltop Community Fund.
