BACK IN 1975, people in Cleator Moor protested against plans to knock down their homes and established Impact (improvement through action). Now a social landlord based in Workington and operating across Cumbria, its 194 employees say that their managers support staff and care for people as individuals (both 76%). Bosses — the majority of whom are women — also take an active interest in their wellbeing (78%). Salaries are fair for the sector (58%) and people are happy with other benefits, which include free private healthcare (65%).
