A team filled with shining stars is something that Lincolnshire Housing Partnership (LHP) can proudly boast, thanks to its recently introduced recognition programme that identifies those that have gone above and beyond in their work.
The ‘Shine Awards’, coupled with another system for recognition, namely ‘Round of Applause’, is a way for individuals at the housing association to feel acknowledged by their peers and rewarded with a prize worth £50.
Established in 2018, LHP is a 12,700-home landlord with a strong vision to provide great homes and build strong communities. Covering the whole of the historic east coast of Lincolnshire, the charitable community-based organisation provides affordable rental and shared ownership homes as well as a range of services to help support people and communities.
Recognition is just one part of LHP’s commitment to its people, with several initiatives in place to support and develop its colleagues as part of its internal culture change programme, The LHP Way.
One such initiative is its Corporate Training Programme, launched in April 2021, which will see employees undertake courses in three key areas. The introduction of the course comes from a passion to invest in individuals as people and give them the opportunity to develop their skills.
The key driving force in the Corporate Training Programme, says LHP, is that it encourages employee accountability and promotes employees to be in control of their own learning by having conversations with their managers about their development.
My organisation encourages charitable activities
LHP aspires to be a net zero organisation and has developed an ESG strategy with a carbon plan that sets out how this can be achieved. This strategy weaves together key examples of the high-level actions it will take to move towards net Zero, which are already built into a range of key strategies.
This organisation is run on strong values / principles
The introduction of a weekly Executive Management Team (ELT) vlog is helping to raise the visibility of LHP’s senior team, which is supported by Spotlight (a monthly staff ezine) and a new, much-improved intranet (Basecamp), which offers a social media engagement tool and instant staff recognition module.
I feel that my manager talks openly and honestly with me
All managers have scheduled 1-2-1s with their own line manager and have designated times for catch-ups as groups – both formal and informal. Coaching is available through an external agency and a two-part Management Development Programme is in place for everyone with a line management responsibility. For senior managers, a separate, in-house programme has been developed.
