Founded in Nelson, Lancashire in 1860, Marsden Building Society started life as The Great and Little Marsden Permanent Benefit Building Society.
Created to build a better community, members paid a monthly subscription to pool funds and help finance their own homes. Over time, this resulted in more funding being generated and more homes built.
Marsden Building Society continues to grow, supporting its members with savings, mortgages, and more.
In 2020, Marsden Building Society’s balance sheet increased to £638 million, and as a mutual building society, the organisation is run for the benefit of its members, not for the benefit of its shareholders. All profits made are reinvested so that the organisation can continue to grow, improve its product offering, and deliver first-class customer service.
Marsden Building Society believes in ‘building something better’, and this isn’t only in relation to the homes it helps to finance. The organisation regularly supports its local communities through charitable giving, annual affinity account donations, sponsorships, and fundraising events.
The organisation also prides itself on being a great place to work and strives to improve its practices to increase employee engagement across its 100+ employees situated in its branch network and Principal Office. Dedicated to encouraging a ‘family feel’ within the organisation, Marsden Building Society’s core value is to ensure a happy and supportive workplace for all employees.

This job is good for my own personal growth
Collaborating with Future Lives, the organisation created two bespoke development programmes. The first programme targeted junior colleagues, developing self-awareness, resilience and learnt skills to help them take ‘the next step’. The second programme is an internal mentoring scheme geared towards middle and senior managers, supporting the development of junior colleagues and developing feedback culture.
My manager shares important knowledge and information with me
