Clarity is the guiding principle at law firm Morton Fraser LLP and that's exactly what staff were provided with during the pandemic. The firm created an Incident Management Team (IMT) to plot its course through the global health crisis, providing a focal point for policy making and quick decision making and to provide reassurance to employees.

Based in Edinburgh and Glasgow, the independent top ten Scottish law firm works across four service areas: business, commercial real estate, public sector and individuals and families, advising clients throughout the UK and internationally. One of its priorities, when hiring, is to make sure that the workforce reflects the diversity of its clientele.

Morton Fraser represents some of the largest private, public and third sector organisations in the country including central and local government and charities, among them Diageo, Schuh, Skyscanner, Scottish Wildlife Trust, Orkney Islands Council, Scottish Gymnastics and Royal Bank of Scotland.

For the first eight months of the pandemic the limited liability partnership's Incident Management Team met three times a week to ensure it protected its team's health, safety and welfare. The group agreed the introduction of regular wellbeing calls with staff, extra payments to those on furlough and provided guidance to managers on how to hold discussions with employees working from home, ensuring people were seen “in the round”. The firm also introduced phone apps for people to access GP services and counselling and regular wellbeing conversations, check-ins and organised online team events.
