Founded by the CEO Nisha Katona in 2014 in Liverpool, previously a Child Protection Barrister, she was addicted to her family recipes, she maintained a passion for food alongside her career as a Barrister.
Nisha wanted to create an Indian home kitchen, replicating how Indians eat in their homes and on the street. The menu is shaped from Nisha's favourite 20 Indian dishes. Mowgli Street Food is designed to be completely different experience to the traditional curry house you will find in the U.K.
Mowgli Street Food currently operates in 17 cities with a total of 18 restaurants with more openings coming in 2024.
With the development of a strong Leadership, Head Office and Restaurant teams has allowed the Mowgli Street Food mission of "Enriching the Lives of the Cities we go to" to spread to as many cities as possible. This always starts with ensuring they enrich the lives of the team that work for Mowgli Street Food.
This strong sense of purpose is also what drives the charitable arm to Mowgli Street Food - The Mowgli Trust, supporting two big international charities and the work they do in India alongside each restaurant supporting a charity local to its city, which the teams support through various volunteering and fundraising initiatives.
Mowgli Street Food has a strong culture of making sure all team members feel nourished, purposeful, and fulfilled. It achieves this through a variety of ways from industry leading earnings, wellbeing programmes, and benefits packages.

The organisation continues its Mental Health Awareness Training for all restaurant managers. The aim of the course is to not only learn to look after and support their own wellbeing but to also understand how to spot if a team member may be struggling and their role as a leader in supporting them.
My team is fun to work with
This year, teams celebrated successes at the annual Mowgli Fest. An event which celebrates the organisation’s stars. Every person gets free food and drink and the event has live band karaoke, dodgems, funfair, worldwide food vendors, disco, photobooth, and the Mowgli Awards hosted by Nisha and this year’s celebrity guest, Fred Siriex.
I am paid fairly for the work I do relative to people in similar positions in similar organisations
Superstars at the organisation are nominated by their General Manager to go on a once in a lifetime trip to India. India trips are 10 days away, all expenses paid. The most recent trip to Assam saw 15 team members oversee projects on elephant conservation, sustainable female business and sustainable farming and living.
