Operam Education Group is a forward-thinking company specialising in the acquisition and development of education recruitment agencies. Founded in 2017, its portfolio consists of four well-established brands – Provide Education, The Education Specialists, Teachers UK and Key Stage Teacher Supply. Each has served its region and specialist areas over decades, and together they are a leading force in the North.

Everyone – whether furloughed or not – was treated inclusively and equally in accordance with the core Operam philosophy of not leaving anyone isolated. Hierarchies were no barrier to communication. Staff received weekly telephone calls or more, according to need, from founder and CEO Eddie Austin or COO Sharon Bullock, as part of a three-pronged approach to emotional, financial and operational support.

A proportion of managers was furloughed, some volunteered, but all remained supported by the company. Two separate briefs a week were aimed respectively at home-working and furloughed employees – with each sensitive and responsive to need. The overall ethos was one of operational normality while adjustments were made.

A major technological transformation was accelerated to enable managers to perform operationally and to support teams to ensure business continuity. Engagement cascaded all the way through the extended workforce and candidate network, with Operam staff conducting nearly 1,300 weekly telephone calls covering welfare checks, availability and sharing information.
