Underpinned by the belief that if the company looks after its staff, the staff will look after its clients Quill Pinpoint offers a one-stop-shop for law firms' software and service needs. What began in 1978 with a few entrepreneurs selling programmable calculators has developed into a 100-plus team based at offices in Manchester, Liverpool, Colchester, Kirkaldy and Brighton.
Employees help law firms run smarter and more effectively by providing software to manage practices and legal accounts as well as outsourced legal cashiering, bookkeeping, payroll and typing. With more than four decades' experience in the legal industry Quill Pinpoint is proud of its heritage and of its private ownership.
Equal opportunities, professional development and career progression pathways combine with having fun at work to create the Quill Pinpoint culture. It's a winning formula, going by the long service many staff accrue; the average tenure is eight years. The company sent monthly 'How are you?' surveys during the pandemic, to better understand how staff felt and if they had everything they needed to work effectively and comfortably at home.
Communication came thick and fast via a range of media, to ensure no one felt kept in the dark about anything. Managing director Julian Bryan meets all new starters and reinforces the company values of remaining committed, open and honest, respectful and supportive, and efficient.
The leader of this organisation runs this organisation based on sound moral principles
A leadership training programme launched just before the pandemic for all managers, team leaders and directors covering topics such as constructive feedback and mental health awareness. It proved helpful when the company formed a Covid-19 task force at the pandemic's outbreak, to address concerns and communicate with staff early and often.
I feel proud to work for this organisation
Agile working will continue post-pandemic, although people can still work from the office if they choose. Employees have not had to rely on their personal computers, with new equipment bought for anyone not already set up to work remotely. Everyone (except those in probationary of notice periods) receives a bonus paid in autumn and April.
My organisation encourages charitable activities
A percentage of the company's usual spend on milk and fruit has been donated to charity while staff work from home, and the dress down Friday £1 contributions have continued – even though every day is dress down day at home. Julian Bryan leads from the front with charity fundraising, selling cuttings and root divisions from his garden to employees.

Companies where at least 40% of the staff have worked there for more than five years.
